I was looking at some photos of my baby niece and nephew, and thought about what it is they eat, and remembered that their mom and my mom used to make them homemade foods, and the food consisted of fresh, ripe ingredients.
And I think it is best that babies eat homemade baby foods, rather than canned and bought from the supermarket.
Here are a few recipes that the mom will find easy to make in the comfort of her kitchen; You can start off with simply boiling ripe fruits or vegetables:
Cut an x into the flesh of each peach then blanch in boiling water for 1 minute, cool in cold water then remove skin and pits, then steam for 5 minutes.
Peel, trim ends, and cut to 1/3-1/2 inch cubes, boil for 7-12 minutes, until fork tender.
Peeling, core and slice thickly, boil for 6 minutes, until tender.
Rinse thoroughly and remove stems & thick veins, boil for 6 minutes.
(Add spinach to other ingredients to make it delicious for the baby!)
And here is a sophisticated recipe:
Apples, Carrots, Chicken, and Onions
· 1 teaspoon sunflower or other oil
· 1 medium onion, peel and sliced thinly
· 1 apple, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
· 2 carrots, peeled, trimmed, and sliced thinly
· 1/4 cup water
· 2-4 poached chicken breast halves
Brown onions with oil over medium-low heat for 15 minutes, add apples, carrots, and water, cover and continue cooking at medium-low for 5-10 minutes until tender, add poached chicken.
This recipe makes approximately 3 cups.
