After killing hundreds of the Islamic State fighters at the Palmyra site, which was captured by them since May 2015. The Syrian government forces retook Tadmur again.
Though the site was said to be in good condition; those recent taken post war photos of Tadmur shows what appears to be a museum in a really bad shape with some artifacts completely destroyed.
What happened in Tadmur and many places across syria is seen by many as the invasion of Baghdad by the Mongols under the command of Hulagu Khan back in 1258. The Mongols committed many atrocities back then and destroyed the Abbasids’ vast libraries, including the House of Wisdom.
