MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Is On a Mission to Dignify the Lives of Refugees

Refugees world over have been facing the brunt of uncalled battles! To address the acute challenges faced by the refugees, MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab (MITEF Pan Arab) has announced the launch of a global competition designed to reward tech-driven solutions to problems faced by refugees.

The ‘Innovate for Refugees’ global competition is being held in partnership with Zain Group and MBC Hope, the corporate social responsibility arm of MBC and supported by the United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR), UNICEF, Uber and Jusoor.

Launched with an aim to alleviate the burden of the refugee crisis, the competition will address issues as healthcare, food, shelter, security, education and energy. While the competition is open to participants from anywhere in the world, the organizers hope to encourage entrepreneurs from among the refugee community to enter ideas themselves.

A panel of expert judges will evaluate the submissions of the applicants based on: Innovation- the extent to which the technology-based solutions is innovative, Impact- the extent to which the solution benefits the refugees, Scalability- the solution should be implemented on a regional and global level, Team- judges look for experience, value add, and relevance of each team member, Financial Sustainability- how the solution will remain financially sustainable; and the final pitches will take place in Jordan at Zain Innovation Campus – ZINC.

Five prizes of $ 20,000 will be awarded to the most innovative solutions that tackle the crisis faced by the refugees. Participants can apply online on by adhering to the following criteria-

• At least two members per team
• Core product/service needs to be technology based
• Core product/service needs to address a refugee problem
• Teams of refugees or that include refugees are encouraged to apply

With an aim to put global energy and goodwill at work, The MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Innovate for Refugees competition is certainly a noble initiative to help the distressed refugees live a dignified life!
