The red carpet dazzled and shone as tinsel town’s celebrities hit the Oscars for its annual show. The sparkling event kicked off with a tribute to the year in film for 2015. While the controversy over #Oscars So White continued to steal the limelight, it was actor and comedian Chris Rock who eased the mood at the hi-profile event with his snappy punch lines!
Five-time Oscar nominee, Leonardo DiCaprio was awarded his first Academy Award for the Best Actor for “The Revenant,” while the Best Actress trophy was presented to Brie Larson for her outstanding work in “Room.” While Mark Rylance captured the attention of the audience as the Best Supporting Actor for his film “Bridges of Spies”, Alicia Vikander stunned her critics with her win for “The Danish Girl”.
The glitzy night of pageantry and ritual came to an end, with “Spotlight” the Boston Globe’s explosive investigation into child sex abuse by Catholic priests, awarded as the Best Picture. In total, the Revenant won three of the 12 accolades for which it was nominated. Alejandro Inarritu also won best director and Emmanuel Lubezki won his third Oscar for cinematography in a row, having won in 2015 for Birdman and 2014 for Gravity.
With that the brook of gold figurines were rolled out. While some were left disappointed, the rest basked in the glory of their win! Entangled with controversies, disagreements and drama, the coveted award yet managed to touch our hearts!
